About midway between Florence and Reedsport lies the Oregon Dunes Day Use Area, which also doubles as the starting point of the Oregon Dunes Loop Trail. At approximately 4-miles, this trail feels longer than that, as the trudge through the sand dunes can take its toll on hikers. But the walk along the ocean’s edge and the coastal forest make the extra effort worth it. About a dozen of us enjoyed an almost perfect day on the beach, although the sun sure did take its sweet time to come out!
