We had a good turnout for our Cape Arago hike. 11 of us caravanned over from Roseburg and met 3 near the trailhead for a total of, yes, we can do simple math, 14 all together.
This hike is a little unconventional, as we usually hike along the coast for those awesome ocean views, but we headed inland and up to the top of the cape through, at times, lush green growth and a timbered uphill trek. There aren’t the spectacular vistas due to heavy wooded growth, but the forest is beautiful. We finally headed downhill and west to Cape Arago and down to the beach for a well-deserved lunch on the beach. The end of the beach trail was a bit of a rappel down a rope since the tides had washed the bottom of the trail away but was handled easily. While on the beach, we were joined by a group of students from Oregon State on a tide pooling adventure. Quite a few more people than we normally encounter.
After a climb back up the rope we headed north along the coast back to the trail along the ocean to Shore Acres and the gardens for a walk among the gorgeous flowers. Then it was a backtrack along the road to the cars. It was a spectacular day to spend at the coast with hardly any wind, sunny skies, and the perfect temperature. If you weren’t there, you missed a good one.

“So like, we have enough blue buckets, but did ANYONE bring a sandwich?!”

Ok then, just grab your blue buckets and go play in the sand.”
