Lemolo Lake – September 8, 2018

Posted onSeptember 8, 2018September 9, 2021

Hike Coordinator Richard O’Neill This is a relatively new trail, having been constructed and finished late summer of 2017. Naturally, this was the first time the club had ever hiked this 10’ish mile trail and 8 or so hikers set on the trail with an expectant air of discovery. The first part of the hike ………….click here to read more.

Tidbits Mountain – August 25, 2018

Posted onAugust 25, 2018December 2, 2018

Hike Coordinator Lane Harris Tidbits Mountain is a small peak with epic views. It’s also a small peak with a long drive to the trailhead. On that drive, as we headed up the McKenzie River valley, the air became hazy, then hazier, then haziest. Before long, thick choking smoke from the brand new Terwilliger Fire ………….click here to read more.

Lassen Campout August 15th-19th, 2018

Posted onAugust 19, 2018October 21, 2018

There were two gigantic wildfires burning in central California and Roseburg’s skies were clogged with smoke from the twin conflagrations. It stood to reason there’d be plenty more acrid smoke and ash in nearby Lassen Volcanic National Park. But 9 intrepid hikers drove three hours through dense choking smoke while the rest of the “fluffies” ………….click here to read more.

Fuji Mountain – August 11, 2018

Posted onAugust 11, 2018September 25, 2018

Hike Coordinator – Edwin Case Three Friends of the Umpqua Hiking Club members journeyed to the Fuji Mountain trail head located in the Willamette National Forest near Oakridge Oregon.   We hiked uphill just over three miles to the peak of Fuji Mountain and were rewarded with views of Waldo Lake and the Three Sisters. ………….click here to read more.

Mount Bailey – July 28, 2018

Posted onJuly 28, 2018July 29, 2018

Hike Coordinator – Edwin Case The road was rough and we had three 4 wheel drive vehicles ferry our 11 hikers to the upper Mount Bailey trailhead. We enjoyed a respite from Roseburg’s upper 90 degree heat with the temperature being a relatively cool 80ish degrees with a steady breeze blowing. Unfortunately, smoke from the ………….click here to read more.

Jack Ash Trail – June 30, 2018

Posted onJune 30, 2018September 9, 2021

Hike Coordinator – Lane Harris Despite a long drive and one flat tire, 11 people enjoyed this one-way 6 mile mostly downhill hike on the newly developed Jack-Ash trail near Jacksonville and Ashland, OR (thus, the Jack-Ash name, which surely conjures up snickers from those of us still in the 2nd grade, mental-wise). The weather ………….click here to read more.

Cowhorn Mountain – June 16, 2018

Posted onJune 16, 2018June 21, 2018

Hike Coordinator – Edwin Case Only four hikers showed up for this hike. Lindsey, Brad, Larry, and I arrived at the trailhead near Tipanogas Lake Campground at 10:30. We hiked along the north side of Lake Tipanogas then up and around the valley, walking through forest and past ponds up to the summit of Cowhorn ………….click here to read more.

Boccard Point – June 2, 2018

Posted onJune 2, 2018June 11, 2018

Hike Coordinator – Brad Bishop   Five hardy hikers showed up on a beautiful late spring day for the PCT to Boccard Point hike on June 2nd. Jane, Diane, John and myself left Roseburg and met our newest member, Chelsea, at the Soda Mountain trailhead. The weather forecast the temperature to reach 90 degrees, but we pushed ………….click here to read more.

Taylor Creek – May 19, 2018

Posted onMay 19, 2018September 9, 2021

Hike Coordinator – Richard O’Neill Several years ago, I led the club on an outing on the Taylor Creek Trail and we really didn’t get very far. There were several bridges crossing and re-crossing the creek and all were rotten, dilapidated, and dangerous. Well, I read a newspaper article about the new bridges on the ………….click here to read more.

Sutton Creek – May 5, 2018

Posted onMay 5, 2018May 28, 2018

Hike Coordinator – Richard O’Neill Oh, I had such ambitious plans for this hike. Several years ago, I had cobbled an improvised route that followed faint game trails through Alder Dunes and dense forest. While challenging, the route did include a beach walk before the bushwack back along slow-moving Sutton Creek. Oh, but the best ………….click here to read more.
