Feb. 6. Eagle’s Rest and/or Goodman Creek.
This is off Hwy. 58. The club will first tackle the Eagle’s
Rest trail which has an elevation gain of 1,422 feet and is a
five mile moderate to difficult trek, in and out. The views
at the top make it worth the effort. Then if members have the
stamina, they will hike down to Goodman Creek for another four
miles through a marshy rain forest, crossing a log bridge, to
view a small water fall . For more information, call Jane at

Feb. 20 Mildred Kanipe Park.
The Park has rolling hills and an oak tree savanna
interspersed with stands of Douglas Fir and open meadows
between. It is a moderate 5 to 7 mile hike with many trails to

March 6. Graves Creek/Rogue River Trail East.
This easy hike will start out on the South Shore River
trail for 4 miles, in and out, to get another view of Rainey
Falls. Then, hikers will go back over the bridge to the steeper
trail on the other side of the river, with the option of going
to Whiskey Creek Cabin for a seven mile roundtrip or less as
each hiker desires. For more information, call John at

March 20. Cascade Gorge.
This is about an eight mile moderate hike, not far from Lost
Creek Lake. Hikers will follow the trail up the middle fork of
the Rogue to the mouth of the south fork. Along the way are
great views of the scenic gorge, lake overlooks, and several
waterfalls along the way. For more information, call Richard at

April 3. Brice Creek.
This is past Dorena Lake and offers beautiful views of the
rushing creek as it winds along old growth forest, ferns, oxalis
and huckleberry brush. This is an easy 5.5 miles with a
shuttle and there are options for a short hike to the

April 14. Scheduling Meeting.
Mercy Conference room. This is up the stairway between
Parkway Medical Supply and Office Depot on Stewart Parkway.
Bring potluck, eating utensils and your good ideas for hikes for
the summer. Potluck at 6, scheduling at 7 p.m. Call Ray for

April 17. Kalmiopsis Rim to Eagle Peak.
This is west of Grants Pass and it is a moderate to
difficult hike of four to nine miles depending on the stamina
of each hiker. There are amazing views through the remains of
a forest after a huge fire left the ghostly white skeletons of
trees with no brush to block the view. For more information,

The group meets in the Douglas County Courthouse Parking lot at
8 a.m. Bring lunch, water, rain gear, and be prepared to share
gasoline expenses. Each hiker is responsible for knowing his or
her limits regarding distance and difficulty of the hike .
Hiking plans may have to be changed due to weather or other
conditions .
