Unfortunately our planned hike to
Illahee Rock and Wild Rose Point had to be changed due to
the road and trails still being blocked by snow. So I
changed it to the Dear Leap Segment of the North Umpqua
Trail.13 club members hiked 8
miles from Tokotee Lake to Medicine Creek Road. The weather
was near perfect for hiking – in the 50’s/60’s, some sun, no
rain, no snow, and no wind.
The trail was in excellent condition and
we made good time and arrived at the lunch spot 5 miles from
the start on a prominent rock outcropping with a vertical
view down on the Umpqua River and southeast to snow covered
hills and buttes.
Many wildflowers were in bloom along the
trail including some Rhody’s. This hike has everything one
could want. A very scenic and thoroughly enjoyable day for
all. We had to stop at Glide and have our obligatory reward
of an ice-cream cone, of course.
