February 21 and fourteen hikers arrive
at the east trailhead of Mt. Pisgah. In
spite of the mist that rolls in
everything soon clears out enough to see
the top. The rolling trail #2 undulates
up and down and is wide as a road.
Everyone pushes out and is on their
way.
Diane is not here with me as her foot is
still bothering her. Richard Summers
hangs back to take pictures and I am
glad he does as that way I don't hike
alone. I suppose you can still call it
hiking even thought the pace is slow. I
can't take time to get my water out of
my pack. I already removed my jacket
and fleece so feel it necessary to go on
without another stop Luckily a woman
hiker is coming down and is willing to
stop and remove my water bottle from my
zippered pack. I hurry on and catch up
with Richard and make it up to the top
in time to take a group picture then
we're off again.
We finally manage to get all on trail #
3 and I find the flagging that was
removed earlier in the week now has
ended up on this trail and we will find
out further on that someone has placed
the removed flagging in areas that would
cause anyone that follows them to
bushwhack into the unknown . I try to
remove all that I see but only time will
tell where they've all been put. We do
meet a man with a dog that is
antagonistic toward any flagging. I
wonder is he the rascal.
We take lunch off the trail on some
mossy rocks and watch a parachute person
go behind the hill. Two large birds,
maybe Osprey, circle rising up on the
air currents. On the hike out we meet
three horsepersons coming down a narrow
trail in the trees as we skirt muddy and
water pooled areas and I am slightly
disappointed in the lack of flowers or
mushrooms. Just too early in the year I
guess. It was a goodly hike 5.5 or 6
miles.
See you soon. |
