FRIENDS OF THE UMPQUA
Deer Leap - Dec 1, 2007
by Ray Jensen

Saturday, Dec 1 and 10 hardy souls brave the threat of inclement weather to attempt the Dear Leap Section of the North Umpqua Trail. We hiked from Toketee Lake to Medicine Cr Rd. 7  plus miles in length, with much up and down – rated moderate. Starting at about 2500’ we had approximately a 600’ overall drop in elevation going east to west with a shuttle. Turns out the weather man was in error and the forecast bad weather never materialized until we were finished late in afternoon. It was crisp, partly sunny, and gorgeous with a few snow flurries thrown in.  Some great views from on high looking down at the river from very precipitous rock outcroppings, some high, sloping meadows, and lots of neat icicles added to allure.  All in all a great winter day hike and all had a good time.

Participants:
Nettie, Diane, Lois, Gary & Nancy, Jane, Geof, George, Ray & Linda
